Professor Gerry Rayman

Consultant Diabetologist, Diabetes and Endocrine Centre, Ipswich Hospitals NHS Trust

Professor Gerry Rayman is a Diabetologist at Ipswich Hospital and holds an honorary professorship at UEA. He has held several national roles, including Clinical Lead for DiabetesUK’s Putting Feet First campaign and co-author of Making Hospitals Safe for People with Diabetes. He contributes to the DiabetesUK/RCP Diabetes Care Accreditation Programme, has advised NCEPOD on amputations, contributed to NICE foot guidance and is co-organiser of the Malvern Foot Conference. He is a former President of the RSM Endocrine and Diabetes Section and contributes to national inpatient and perioperative guidelines through JBDS and the Centre for Perioperative Care.

He developed widely adopted innovations, including the Ipswich-Touch-Test and NaDIA. As GIRFT Diabetes Co-Lead, he has driven major service improvements, including IP3D (Improving Perioperative Pathway for People with Diabetes), virtual pathways for acute admissions, SAMI (Safe Administration and Management of Insulin), and CADNIP (Community and Diabetes Nurse Insulin Programme- optimising insulin therapy for frail elderly)

He has over 220 peer-reviewed publications.
