Alyssa Faulkner MSc has lived with Type 1 diabetes for nearly 14 years and, throughout that time, has advocated for positive change in the diabetes community. She has done this through campaigning with Diabetes Scotland’s Diabetes Tech Can’t Wait campaign, Diabetes UK’s Together Type 1, the International Diabetes Federation Europe Youth Leadership Lab, the YOURAH Network and Youth Advocacy Committee, Breakthrough T1D Scotland discovery events, co-running the Diabetes Edinburgh peer support group, hosting her own event, Young, Fun and Type 1, and through her personal blog, Pumptastic Scot. Alyssa has spoken at the Scottish and European Parliaments about involving people with lived experience in decision-making and has helped shape healthcare policy in Scotland for inpatient care. She also sits on the Scottish Government’s Diabetes Expert Panel, Diabetes UK’s Diabetes Lived Experience Advisory Committee, the Scottish Parliament’s Diabetes Cross-Party Group, and the My Diabetes My Way Project Board. In her professional career, Alyssa works in children’s human rights, enabling children to be involved in decision-making and in changes that affect them through working with the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Government, and local partners across Scotland.
