Dr Mary Masoud

Senior Paediatric Trainee, Ormskirk Hospital, part of Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Dr Mary Masoud is a senior pediatric trainee in the Mersey Deanery with a specialist interest in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, currently working at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She is a committed general paediatrician whose clinical and academic work focuses on improving outcomes for children and young people with diabetes through the integration of technology, education, and service innovation.
She is an active member of an award-winning pediatric diabetes multidisciplinary team and has contributed to the development of local clinical guidelines, patient education resources, and quality improvement initiatives. She has co-authored several publications in paediatric diabetes, with particular academic interests in hybrid closed-loop therapy, health inequalities in diabetes care, and innovative models of education and support for families living with type 1 diabetes.
She was awarded a full scholarship to attend the ISPAD Science School for Healthcare Professionals in Istanbul in 2026, in recognition of her commitment to research, leadership, and service development in pediatric diabetes. She was also invited to speak at the Diabetes UK Conference following national recognition of the STEPPS education programme in the QiC Diabetes Awards Programme. Mary continues to play a key role in the development of STEPPS, helping to shape a peer-supported and psychologically informed approach to diabetes education for children and young people.
