Louise Cooper is a PhD candidate at the Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge. Having spent 25 years increasing inclusion and improving outcomes for children with Special Educational Needs across the education sector, she recently completed an MRes in Public Health at the University of Manchester to develop her professional skills and pursue an interest in epidemiology. A winter school visit to the World Health Organisation in Geneva sparked an interest in reducing the complications associated with diabetes, and she has since become interested in the role of sex in diagnosis and treatment. Her PhD aims to increase our knowledge and understanding of the metabolic, psychosocial and behavioural factors that impact risk or engagement with interventions to reduce the risk of T2D in women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She hopes to use this research to provide guidance and support for future intervention development.
