Erica Richardson

Diabetes Specialist Nurse & Committee Member, TREND-Diabetes

Erica completed her nurse training in Manchester and qualified as a RGN 1999. She has nursing experience in research, acute, primary and community nursing.

She currently works as a nurse lecturer, ANP and lead diabetes research nurse at the university hospitals of Leicester.  Previously she worked as an independent nurse practitioner and the lead for adult in-patient services at SaTH NHS Trust. She has a master’s level qualification in diabetes. She leads the MSC qualification in type 1 diabetes and technologies at the UoL (alongside other diabetes related modules). Erica is a key member of the teaching faculty for the practical diabetes technologies and HCL technology courses and also leads on many of the research projects relating to diabetes and technologies at the LDC.

She also has roles with TREND-Diabetes, the editorial board for Practical diabetes and works closely with many of the other leading organisations within diabetes in the UK.  

She is known for her role in the development and co-author status of the national diabetes competencies and other guidance, patient support information developed by TREND – diabetes. She regularly reviews and comments on other national documents, has developed her own publications and has presented 2 abstracts at national/ international conferences this year.  She has 25 years’ experience in the training and education of nursing and medical staff and proven record of teaching experience at local, national and international level.
