Rachel Besser is a Consultant in Paediatric diabetes and Principal Investigator at the Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford, where she leads the T1Early programme. Rachel leads the UK Islet Autoantibody registry (https://www.ukiab.org/) for children and adults with early-stage T1D. In Europe, Rachel co-leads the follow up programme in EDENT1FI (www.edent1fi.eu/), a European-wide T1D screening initiative.
Rachel holds a number of senior leadership positions, including as Chair of the BSPED Pre-T1D Special Interest group, co-Chair of the NHSE Task & Finish group on T1D screening and Immunotherapy, Lead of the Delay theme at the Bukhman Centre for Research Excellence in T1D, sub-theme lead for Oxford NIHR BRC 4 Metabolic Experimental Medicine, and sits on the Management board of the UK Type 1 diabetes Research Consortium. She is funded by Diabetes UK, the National Institute of Health Research, and UKRI Horizon Europe.
