Dr Mayank Patel has worked as a Consultant in Diabetes and Acute Medicine at University Hospital Southampton since 2008. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Southampton and a member of the Diabetes UK Healthcare Professionals Committee. With a keen interest in diabetes education, he contributes to the local medical undergraduate and postgraduate diabetes training curriculum, as well as regularly delivering diabetes education sessions to patients, public and other healthcare professionals. He co-developed Eolas ‘DiAppbetes’, a smartphone application to help Healthcare Professionals managing people with diabetes. He leads on development the ‘Type 1’ diabetes comic book series.
In 2015, he was named as the Quality in Care awards ‘Outstanding Educator in Diabetes’ and has also received 5 further Diabetes Quality in Care Awards in recognition of his contribution to other diabetes projects. He continues to support GIRFT and JBDS with national diabetes guidance development.
