Professor Janaka Karalliedde FRCP PhD

Professor of Clinical Diabetes and Consultant Physician , King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital London

Janaka is a Professor of Diabetes in the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Metabolic Sciences at King’s College London. He graduated with a distinction in medicine from the University of London and was awarded MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship and a PhD (supervised by Professor Giancarlo Viberti) for research on the pathophysiology and treatment of cardiovascular disease and renal disease in diabetes. Janaka leads research projects focussed on cardio-renal disease and complications of diabetes. He is an active clinician, with more than 15 years of experience and expertise managing patients with kidney and cardiovascular complications at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital. He is the co-chair of the ABCD UKKA group on kidney disease and has recently led projects that enhance early detection of complications and improve outcomes that won Health Service Journal and Diabetes Quality in Care awards.
