Angela Schawsmidth is a volunteer at SACMHA as a Community Health Adviser, at the Social Cafe. With over 30 years experience as a nurse (RGN) in the NHS.Angela helps to support the mainly African Caribbean elders with regular talks on general health topics encouraging them to share their experiences and voice any concerns they may have. She offers regular blood pressure checks advising individuals to see their General Practitioner for further monitoring if any concerns arise. Angela has also spent five years as the deputy manager at an African and Caribbean Elderly Day Care Centre supporting older adults in the community. From her past work experiences Angela has a big interest in long term conditions with a special interest in diabetes. She recognises the importance of health research which will provide significant benefit to our community and future generations. She is now a trained Community Researcher Link Worker.
