Ahmed Ahmed

Consultant Surgeon and Clinical Professor in Metabolic Surgery

Mr Ahmed is an Associate Professor in Metabolic Surgery at Imperial College London and consultant in upper gastrointestinal surgery and lead bariatric surgeon at Imperial weight centre. He is the current President of the British Obesity and Metabolic Specialist Society (BOMSS) and served on the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England 2020-2024.


Mr Ahmed is actively involved in weight loss research and has a PhD degree in mechanisms of complications of gastric bypass surgery and has received over £1,000,000 in NIHR research funding (CI for EMBIO RCT) and has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals.


He trained in general and upper GI surgery in the UK and at Stanford University and the University of Rochester in the US. He trains other surgeons in the field of bariatric surgery and runs the Imperial Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery and is on the faculty on numerous courses on bariatric surgery.  Mr Ahmed is often consulted by other professionals and medicolegal experts for his opinions on complex bariatric surgery cases.
