Shazli Azmi is a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology and Clinical Lead at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester. She is the Clinical lead for the Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism Centre at MFT. She has a specialist clinical interest in the management of complex type 2 diabetes and micro/macrovascular complications. Her research interest is in diabetic neuropathy, small fibre neuropathy and neuropathic pain. Her previous work detailed metabolic and neuropathy phenotyping in subjects with obesity, impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus and the development of a surrogate marker for neuropathy. Dr Azmi's current research is primarily focused on surrogate end points for human diabetic neuropathy and other peripheral neuropathies with >70 peer reviewed publications. She is the NIHR North West Regional Research Delivery Network Specialty co-lead for Diabetes and Endocrinology. She is the training programme director for D&E in the North West Deanery.
