Professor Tom Yates

Professor of Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour and Health, University of Leicester

Prof Yates is Director of the Leicester Lifestyle and Health Research Group and co-lead of the Lifestyle theme within the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre where his research focuses on investigating how physical behaviours, from sleep to physical activity and nutrition, can be used as therapies in the prevention and management of obesity and chronic disease. Over recent years, he has developed ongoing research harnessing the latest developments in efficient clinical trial designs to understand how physical behaviours and nutrition can be used in synergy with weight loss and diabetes medications. Prof Yates has published over 350 articles (Google Scholar H-index = 80) and holds several prestigious research grants, including £14M in new investment from Research England through the Expanding Excellence in England Award.
