Dr. Paul Nderitu is a Senior Research Fellow at University College London and a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist and Medical Retina Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust. His research focuses on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and large-scale data analysis for retinal disease. During his doctoral studies at King’s College London, funded by Diabetes UK as part of the Sir George Alberti Fellowship, he developed prognostic AI models to predict incident sight-threatening diabetic eye disease. Following this work, Dr. Nderitu and his colleagues secured funding from Sight Research UK and are currently conducting the UK's first prognostic trial of this AI system in diabetic eye disease screening. He is currently involved in the development of multimodal AI models for UK virtual retinal services, diabetic eye disease screening in low-to-middle-income countries, and the developing of the world’s first global-scale foundation AI model.
