Patrick has had senior posts in Diabetic Eye Screening (DES) and Public Health since 2011. He joined Public Health England in 2013 as a Quality Assurance Manager supporting oversight of regional delivery of screening. He then moved into developing education and training frameworks for screening programmes as the National Education Manager in 2015. Following this; Patrick took up the role of National Programme Manager for the DES programme in 2017. Since 2024, Patrick has been the Quality and Improvement Lead for DES and aneurysm screening.
As part of his current role, Patrick is responsible for the operational and strategic delivery of DES and has been instrumental in the delivery of extended screening intervals and the ongoing implementation of OCT into DES. These changes have helped provide more personalised diabetic eye screening for the 3 million people with diabetes who are eligible for it.
