Erica P. Gunderson, PhD, MPH, is a professor of Health Systems Science at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, and an epidemiologist, formerly with Kaiser Permanente Northern California. Her research program investigates cardiometabolic health trajectories across the reproductive life-course and development of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in women. Her many NIH-funded studies elucidate pre-pregnancy, prenatal and postpartum risk factors related to incident type 2 diabetes after gestational diabetes, and vascular aging among women with and without a history of gestational diabetes according to glucose tolerance throughout midlife. In 2002-2023 she received the Dr. Nanette K. Wenger Research Goes Red Award for Best Scientific Article on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke in Women from the American Heart Association, and the Agnes Higgins Award in Maternal-Fetal Nutrition from the March of Dimes. She has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed original scientific articles and reviews on reproductive exposures and later life cardiometabolic health in women and children.
