Teifion is a SMF Grand Challenge funded postdoctoral researcher, working in the research group of Professor Sarah Richardson in Exeter. His research combines computational biology and advanced image analysis techniques to understand how the human pancreas develops post-birth and how pancreas maturity affects type 1 diabetes.
Teifion's primary research interest is the histopathology of rare human pancreas samples collected from individuals with and without diabetes, across a range of ages and disease duration. Before moving to diabetes research, Teifion completed his PhD at the University of Liverpool, where he studied how tumour-macrophage crosstalk supports metastasis in pancreatic cancer.
His recent research findings will have significant implications for future screening and treatment strategies for T1D.
