Dr Rajalakshmi Valaiyapathi

Raj obtained her primary medical qualification from Imperial College London in 2018 alongside a BSc in Medical Sciences with Endocrinology. She is a Chemical Pathology/Metabolic Medicine trainee, currently out of programme and undertaking her PhD at Imperial College London. Her research examines pregnancy outcomes after metabolic bariatric surgery, with a focus on glycaemic variability measured by continuous glucose monitoring, the challenges of diagnosing gestational diabetes in this population, and maternal micronutrient status. 

As Diabetes and Endocrinology Trainee Representative, Raj is committed to amplifying the voice of resident doctors, supporting trainees who combine clinical training with research, and making specialist meetings such as the Diabetes UK Professional Conference accessible and relevant to those early in their careers. She is particularly keen to promote collaboration across specialties at the interface of diabetes, obesity and pregnancy.
