Nick started his professional life as a medical doctor. In response to a growing interest in safety science, he redirected his career and now works as a senior investigator for the Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB), the independent investigator of patient safety issues in England. Nick is a chartered human factors specialist and was awarded his PhD by the University of Nottingham for research into safety in healthcare and other safety-critical industries. During 2026 he has been leading on a series of HSSIB investigations concerned with patient safety and the administration of insulin.
