Dr Marina Politis

Academic Foundation Doctor, Newcastle

Marina is an academic FY2 doctor in Newcastle and an Honorary Research Fellow with the MESSAGE (Medical Science Sex & Gender Equity) Project, which has formed national policy work aimed at improving the integration of sex and gender considerations across UK biomedical, health and care research. She has research experience using both quantitative and qualitative methods, with published work in frailty, social isolation, health equity and medical education.


Her wider interests include health justice, the social determinants of health and improving care for underserved communities, Marina is a member of Medact and an advocate for planetary health. 


Marina also teaches on topics related to diversity and inclusion in medical education, with an interest in the male norm. Clinically, post‑foundation training, she is exploring a career spanning both primary and secondary care, with interests in general practice, geriatrics and neurology, and hopes to combine patient‑centred work with research, education and policy.
