Lala Leelarathna is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction and Consultant in Diabetes at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. In 2014, he was awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK, for his research on hypoglycaemia, automated insulin delivery systems and continuous glucose monitoring in type 1 diabetes.
Dr Leelarathna has been a leading investigator in numerous diabetes technology studies evaluating the clinical and cost effectiveness of automated insulin delivery and continuous glucose monitoring systems.
He has co-authored over 125 peer-reviewed publications, including landmark studies in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, and Diabetes Care. Dr Leelarathna’s current work is focused on evaluating the role of continuous glucose monitoring and automated insulin delivery in adults with type 2 diabetes and those with advanced kidney disease, including those undergoing dialysis treatment.
