Dr Kalyaani Persad is a Foundation Year One Doctor at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust with a strong academic focus in diabetes and endocrinology. Her work spans clinical care, quality improvement, and medical education, with a particular interest in improving outcomes in diabetes emergencies. She serves as Coordinator for DEKODE, an international surveillance system addressing diabetic ketoacidosis and acute diabetes care across 50+ hospitals, endorsed by NHS GIRFT, Society for Endocrinology, and ABCD. Kalyaani has coordinated national conferences focusing on acute diabetes management and serves as the first Associate Member of Diabetes UK’s Diabetes Research Steering Group 4, representing early-career professionals. She has presented her work nationally and internationally across diabetes and endocrinology forums and has published on simulation-based learning in acute diabetes management. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago and trained at the University of Birmingham, she strives to bring a global, collaborative approach to advancing diabetes care.
