Aoife Slattery is Tackling Inequality Engagement Lead at Diabetes UK and lead the work on their 2023 Tackling Inequality Commission. The Commission gathered lived experience testimony from over 100 people living with or at risk of diabetes, as well as frontline healthcare professionals, researchers, community leaders and experts on racial and social justice. This work laid the foundation for the charity’s Achieving Equity in Diabetes 2025-2030 Strategy – No one left behind which she also co-authored.
Aoife has since lead on the development of Diabetes UK’s Community Organisation Advisory Committee (COAC) to ensure that community expertise and lived experience drives their work at every stage.
Aoife left clinical practice to work full time in health equity and strategy for Diabetes UK in 2022. She was a GP partner at a CQC outstanding practice for 7 years prior to this. During her last 2 years as a GP she was Clinical Director for a Primary Care Network in an area of coastal deprivation.
