Co-Chair of the Diabetes UK Lived Experience Advisory Committee

Allan’s youngest son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2004 at the age of 18 months. After attending a Diabetes UK Family Event, Allan was inspired to volunteer for Diabetes UK and was part of the award-winning Care in School Helpline Team. He is now Co-Chair of the Diabetes UK Lived Experience Advisory Committee and Deputy Chair of the Research Steering Group for Children and Young People with Diabetes. He is also a lived-experience member of several NIHR research committees and a co-applicant for research studies. He is a passionate advocate for the care of young people and their families living with diabetes. As a retired health care professional, he provides an effective bridge between clinicians, researchers, and the wider diabetes community, ensuring that research remains grounded, accessible and aligned with real-world needs.
